Feel Good Gift Ideas for the Holidays, By Judy Noble
"Real gifts," says Becky Dawson of Burtrum, "are reflections of our feelings. If you feel good about your gift, you can bet the person receiving will feel your love."
That's the idea behind Dream Sak, a pillowcase turned personal letter filled with dreams and messages of love. Becky and Brad Dawson (with partners Al and Sandy Johnson) design Saks for all occasions-weddings, anniversaries, holidays-whatever a person can imagine. The artfully scripted pillowcases come with a fabric marker and space for personal messages.
Dream Sak began when Brad's dog, Bud, would sneak into the bedroom and sleep with his head on Brad's pillow. Brad would "beat Bud up" for stealing his best dreams out of the pillowcase. When Bud died of cancer, Brad missed the game and wondered if Bud had been "leaving some of his dream for me. I sure slept better when we played the game."
In 2003, the Dawsons got another dog and the fun resumed. Dream Sak is one of three unique ideas from area organizations that can help you give a gift this season from the heart.
DREAM SAK
Two years ago Ashton Johnson gave a "Dream Sak postcard" to her uncle Dan Johnson and his girlfriend Amanda who were victims of a four-wheeler accident near Little Falls. Now married to Dan, Amanda still talks about the gift. Whenever I look at it, it makes me feel very special and brings a big smile to my face."
John Staab of Little Falls treasures the Sak he received from family while in Kuwait. "It is such a personal gift...I slept on it every night." John plans to frame his Sak as a memento of the time of separation from his family.
For the giver, Becky suggests that you "sleep on the Sak to add your dreams, thoughts, scent, tears, and prayers. Then, place it in the provided bag until delivery to keep those private thoughts clear and fresh. It's all about making someone feel good, knowing they are loved...not just for today, but forever."
